FAQ
How did you get into farming?
Farming is my families background. They were Volga German immigrants who spent their entires lives farming. I wanted to reclaim my heritage.
What is your favorite part of living on a farm?
The sound of the crickets and frogs at dusk or hugging my cow Butters.
Why The Little Herder?
It’s a play on my last name. My German friend translated my last names meaning one day for me, it essentially means Little Herder. It fights perfectly because I keep small herds of animals.
How did your farm begin?
My partner previously ran a horseback trail riding campground, so he had several horses. When I first moved to the farm to help him manage the horses I had zero intention of expanding past the couple rabbits we had. It grew quickly when I was able to bring home my first cow. Now we raise bottle calves, meat rabbits, horses, and will be adding guinea fowl in the next year.
What is your least favorite farm chore?
Mucking stalls. There is so. much. poop.
