Things around the farm have been cold. Frigid cold. The water and stock tanks are covered in ice daily, the animals are burning through hay and grain, the children are catching (and sharing!) every “bug” that comes around….
And I’m over here half awake, trying to stay warm and keep everyone up and running.
So. Tired.
Things that have been happening:
Entire family had pharyngitis
Children both had Fifths Disease
Cattle all developed mites
Bertha decided to have a full blown Polyacrylamide storage myopathy (PSSM) episode
My Honda was down for 6 weeks
Snow days, lots of snow days
Hay struggle-our hay person has shit hay this winter and is trying to cut us short.
Needless to say, halfway through winter and I’m ready for it to end. I don’t want spring yet, not really. I’m savoring the nights cuddled under blankets and knitting socks. However, I would like a break where the sun comes out so everyone can get a nice large dose of Vitamin D. Maybe it would usher out some of the germs in our bodies. Maybe .
Either way, I’ll be over here working on the rest of the winter list. Making notes about ways to improve for next winter and dreaming about garden beds.
And spraying Thieves everywhere.
